I´m arriving in London Gatwick on 15th December and not flying out until the next day. I thought about staying in the airport for the night but as i´ve been very ill this isn´t the best idea. So i was wondering if anyone could recommned any cheap-ish hotel/guest houses close to gatwick airport that have single rooms. Thanks
I assume that you onward luggage is continueing through on transit and you don't have to callect it.
As you might expect hotels near airports are expensive, depending on the time you will arrive and depart you can consider another option.
Gatwick airport has a train station in the airport, you can get all the way up to London in about 30 minutes see this web site:
Travel from Victoria to Piccadilly is a short journey by underground rail.
You could then stay at one of these backpackers hotels:
for about £12 per night in the hostel dormitory or a little more for a private room.
That would give you a few hours away from an airport and right in the middle of tourist London.
Please look at that option and get back to me for more help when you know what you think of that.If that is not siutlable we can the offer other ideas.
Alternatively, you could get on a train to Brighton (less than 30 minutes by train from Gatwick) and stay at one of these:
http://www.brightonbackpackers.com (from £13 per night)
http://www.st-christophers.co.uk/hostels/brighton_hostels (from £9 per night, possibly a bit noisy)
or a cheap B&B from about £25.
That's an interesting idea. I am doing the same thing in March, only first transferring from LHR to LGW for a flight the next day. How much would a train to Brighton cost?
Gatwick to Brighton return currently £7.20 for up to 5 days.
However, heathrow is a long way away. If you wanted to transfer like that the best bet would be to get an airport bus from heathrow to brighton which costs about £20 (takes 2 hours) then a single by train to gatwick next day, cost £7.20. If flying into heathrow you might be better off staying central London in hostels suggested by Bob Flinn, particularly as Piccadilly is halfway between LHR and LGW, and hostels are on Piccadilly line from LHR.
If you got a spare day come to Brighton tho......
