my worst Christmas, I was really ill with pneumonia had begged to be discharged from hospital in time for xmas day!So I spent the day feeling too ill for xmas dinner or to socialise or anything and I ended up being put to bed with nothing except my new Ant and Dec, "Lets get Ready to Rumble" cd for company whilst everyone elase enjoyed the festivities!!!!Obviously going back a few years but it was a pretty dismal one!!!

I had one of those a few years back. I spent Christmas at my ex's cousin's, which was an absolute mad house. Not only did she have a dog and a cat (both of which I'm allergic to), I managed to catch the worst flu I'd ever had and all I wanted to do was go home. I couldn't even lift my head off the pillow for two days after that.

To top it all off, there was a huge snowstorm that week, which meant it took us three hours to drive what's normally a 45-minute stint, and I had to get out and push the car while my ex's family watched from the window. Then, after a long drive back home, we were woken in the morning by a policeman who came to tell us someone drove into our parked car. And just to add salt to the wound, the repair shop left our car out in their lot overnight and someone came and stole the airbags. Which meant the car insurance just about doubled the next year.

Now I go to my own family's for Christmas and take the bus. Woo hoo!

Christmas 1984 was horrid. My mother had passed away in September and Christmas had been her favorite holiday. My dad came to visit me and we spent Christmas Day with my (then) boyfriend's family. They were very gracious and tried very hard to make us feel at home. We reciprocated by acting as though we were enjoying their company, which we did considering we didn't really want to be there in the first place. When we returned home, all I could do was cry for hours. That night, we promised each other we would never make ourselves or each other do that again. For the next few years, we spent Christmas in Jamaica and avoided dealing with family/friends. To this day, I hate Christmas gatherings. I don't want to go, don't want to be there, and can't wait to get home. All it does is give me a starting point for the countdown to our vacation. (Just get me through Christmas Day and then there's only X days left until we leave for much warmer climes!!!)

Any Christmas with the relatives is horrid, and I don't even celebrate Christmas that much. Inevitably it meant spending Xmas Eve with the relatives because it's my cousin's birthday, and you get the works.

I also fall ill during the Christmas period, without fail. Been the case for the past few years. Had food poisoning one year, then flu and fever the next, and god knows what illness will befall this time... *touch wood*

Jun, maybe we should go some place really cool and skip the "family" thing all together!!! I'm thinking somewhere that has snow for you and beaches for us... I know that place exists somewhere... ;) (Wafe can come too!)

I've always made it a point to be home at Christmastime, nomatter where I am. My family is quite traditional that way, and its nice. I love the buzzy festive atmosphere and knowing the coolest people in your life are all there, if not close by.

I think my worst Xmas was last year's. It was my first one away from home, and I spent it with my new boyfriend's family which was lovely. Then came the pub run with his mates, which sounded great but at midnight, all these texts and phonecalls from home came in, and I was so overwhelmed by homesickness I felt almost ill. I dashed out of the pub, burst into tears and stood staring up at the sky willing myself to get a grip. It was awful - being surrounded by so many people, and yet feel so alone.
So this XMas is going to be a quiet affair and I hope it snows so I can have a hot coffee and watch it sitting in bed ;)

That is an excellent idea! I'm sure Wafe will love it. Let me know when you discover the whereabouts of this wonderful place. ;)
