Im in Vietnam and have a couple of questions. How long is the bus journey from Nha Trang to Ho Chi Minh - I was told 8 but this doesnt seem right to me? Does anyone have anywhere nice for a lone traveller to stay in Ho Chi Minh - I arrive on teh bus and leave for the airport the next day. I hear the market is good - is it safe for a lone female or would something else be good to do in my limited time instead?
Also I am flying from Ho Chi Minh to Bangkok with Vietnam airlines and then to London with Qantas with a 7 hour layover in Bangkok - will I have to go through immigration and pay the 500 baht departure tax does anyone know?
Chilling out at Nha Trang...boat party ? anyway, the distance between Nha Trang & HCMC is about 450 plus...the bus takes about 6-8 hrs...but may take longer,sometimes..tyre burst, etc!
as for budget lodge, try Ngoc Dang Hotel (first floor rooms are good) or Vinh Guest House...friendly guys...
the exit tax is USD15 (vietnam), USD 25 (cambodia) Thailand (500B)
My preferred hotel in HCMC is Renaissance Riverside, but it is pricy (> US$100). District 1 has lot of decent hotels. Empress, Springs, Vien Dong, Sol Chancery should be available in about US$ 40. Hostel accomodation is available in Pham Ngu Lao street, which is the backpacker area.
Vietnam is the safest place. Just be careful of the pickpockets (& post cards seeling children)near Ben Thanh market (the famous market of HCMC) and you will be fine.
As regards, your journey to London, you will be in transit at Bangkok. I am not too sure of Quantas, but most of the airline have Tranfer counters. So you don't have to go through immigration and should not be paying departure tax.
You may avail day tour facility at Bangkok, if you wish. You will have to contact the Tour counter at Terminal 1. They arrange visa on arrival as well as exemption from departure tax.
