Mumbai for one day?

Travel Forums Asia Mumbai for one day?

Hello everyone,

More advice needed please!

I arrive in Mumbai from Goa by train about 7am on 22nd Dec. Then I fly home at 4.15am the following morning (23rd).

I am planning to leave my bag in left luggage at the train station, and have a look around Mumbai for the day, before getting my bag and going to the airport at night, where I will unfortunatly have to try and sleep.

Any tips on where I should go, what to see? Bearing i mind I am always tired and in a bad mood after overnight trains/buses. Since it is such a long day is there anywhere I can relax, eat, use a decent toilet and chill a bit? Since it will be a very long day, as will the next, and I can't sight-see all day!

why don't you stay in an hotel for those hours and take good rest before flying???

Here are a few ideas:

1) Visit Gateway of India
2) Walk down Marine drive - great at sunset
3) Visit the Kala Ghoda Art district
4) Shop in Colaba.

This should keep you busy all day.

Well Liz, Bombay has some great places to just sit, eat the best food on gods earth and relax. Try the "Lotus Cafe" it’s an open all day and for a Rs.1000 you can keep sitting and eating for a choice of over a 100 dishes form all over the world and might even meet some interesting people.

Call any travel people/ 5 star hotels for directions. Most cabs should be able to take you there. It’s by the sea and you would know you are there if it feels like heaven.

Nice staff, so just ask them for any help you might need.

Enjoy,
Sam

I would get a hotel if it wasn't that I wouldn't have that long in the hotel, would have to leave in middle of night, and I would like to see a bit of the city. And I know accomodation is Mumbai is expensive. Although maybe I should just spend the money on the hotel and forget seeing Mumbai?

Does anyone know how much it should cost me to get from centre to the international airport?

The fun only starts then, when I get back to the UK I still have to get from Manchester Airport to Crewe by "train" which is really a bus, with no warm clothes, just wearing all my hippyish traveller clothes at once. What is it with the trains in Britain? at least they actually run in India!

350 rupees by taxi from Colaba to international airport (autoricksaws should be cheaper but are not allowed in centre).
