This thread is marked as being about Australia

Can anyone advise on what sort of money facilities to use while travelling on a long trip. PLan to go to oz for a year. Not sure whether to take credit cards or travellers cheque?

Do the ATM machines charge high interest?
Any advice, Id be grateful

Can I open a bank account with an oz permanent address?

i live in australia and i know that lots of places don't accept travellers cheques, but nearly everywhere will have credit card facilities.

The ATMs generally charge a set fee of about two to three pounds, irrespective of how much you withdraw, so it's obviously best to take out a few hundred dollars at a time. I wouldn't bother with traveller's cheques in Australia if I was you, but I would definitely take a credit card as most hostels require your credit card details if you want to reserve a bed in advance.

If you plan to work then you might be better off with an Oz bank account, but otherwise an English one is fine as there are ATMs that accept Cirrus virtually everywhere.
