I guess I've never thought about carrying food for more than a day of hiking or sightseeing. Rats can get into or chew through almost anything. Maybe a metal tin of some sort would work?

don't do what a guy I met in iddia did and pull out some beef jerky in a cafe... Idian guy asks what it is ... Response was "jerky." Then Idian guy asked to try some... I didn't know whether to laugh, cry or just run...Got to love ignorant travellers... LOL

Eugh this whole naughty animal thing....theyre so sneaky coming in and helping themsleves to our snacks!!!!My friend has a really bad phobia of rats and in Malaysia she had an incident....in the dark, felt something crawling over her, huge rat going wild in the room, eventually she realised she had the tiniest bit of chocolate in her bag and as soon as she threw it out the door th rat was quick after it!!!!I guess just wrap stuff up pretty well to avoid any unwelcome visiters!

Sounds like it was related to CupCake

Thats a great idea! How to bate a juicy wholesome rat with a little bit of choclate! Do you know where the term good grub comes from?
Insects are also full of protein and nice and crunchy!
Don't forget worms also, I coundn't eat a whole can though!:)
Seriously what about taking a fishing line an hook, you can impro a rod(if your not vegi)and try catching some free food? One of the best meals Ive had was caught and cooked the same day over an open fire on the beach.

Not in Lake Ontario you don't....not unless you want to turn green or purple or glow in the dark....besides you need a fishing license here...

I've found oats/muesli to be great. Store them in a tupper case and each morning you can spoon a bit into a tin cup and add some hot water - instant porridge! Yum! Dead cheap (24 Eurocents per kilo), fast and easy and with fresh tea perfect on a cold morning when you are half-frozen.
