If I plan to work in Australia, I guess I must be paid into an Aussie bank account rather than my UK one?
If that is the case, which I imagine it is, what is the best process to go about getting it sorted?
Shall I either sort it out now in the UK via the internet, or wait til I get there and do it in person?
Any idea how long it takes aswell?
go to www.citbank.com.au, you can open a traveller account with them
You can also do it with the ANZ bank www.anz.com.au. They have the access advantage account, which is the lowest fee account. Citibank do not have a branch network, not that it matters that much, unless you like banks.
ANZ are good, I had no probs when working in Oz last year. Unlike banks in the UK, the banks in Oz charge you for withdrawls, even from your own branch. ANZ offer an account that you pay $5 (£2) a month and you have unlimited withdrawls from ANZ machines (and there's plenty of them around!)
I agree with the previous comment, and stay away from citybank. For the main reason that they don't actually have any branches, it's all done online. This would be fine, if they could guarantee no problems, but if you have a query it's hard to get it sorted!
