tamstee has indicated that this thread is about Spain

My partner and I are travelling to Spain mid May for 2-3 weeks but have no idea of itinerary or what to do, where to go etc.... .any suggestions??

We are kind of over your 'typical' touristy stuff but don't mind doing a bit of it, really enjoy experiencing the REAL culture, food, people, tradition etc.

thanks

I recommend you rent a car and go to smaller towns in the countryside. I really enjoyed the places and the scenery in the region surrounding Barcelona.

Basically I'm sure you will have a good time no matter where you go as long as you stay away from the Costa del Sol tourist resorts in Southern Spain.

You will have to choose between going North or South.
If you go South, take the AVE (high velocity train) to Sevilla and visit the town and Granada.

If you decide going north, is better idea to go by bus (except if you want to visit Barcelona, here you can travel by train if you like)
North towns worth a visit: Oviedo (capital of Asturias) Santiago de Compostela (Galicia) or San Sebastian (Basque Country)

Hi,

I agree the other answer in the thread. Maybe you have to choose between North and South., or maybe more areas and center in one area to know more about it and their people.

What area to choose is your decission. We can help you, but tell us about your preferences.

Regards,

Aitor

Hi!!!
I`ll give an other posibility. Choos between east and west. You can start at the North, full of mountains and green and go south trough the flat Castilla to Madrid (Avila, if you don`t want to visit big cities) and finish at Granada or somewhere at Andalucia. I think you have time in 3 weeks to visit a lot of interested places, but don`t go to Mediterranean coast if you don´t want to stay at the tipycall tourist places, Barcelona Alicante Valencia are nice but...... you have to choose.
Give more information so we can help more

hiya!!

i've got exactly the same prob - only its going to be just over a month in Spain hopefully!

Just really stuck on whether to fly and bum it on public transport or to drive through france and into spain with own car..... or hire a car??

Does anyone know how long it takes to travel between major places eg North (santander, picos etc) to Madrid, then Madrid to south, south to Barcelona etc? We're also hoping to hop across to Morrocco as well - i know that we need to choose some select gems of places to go, to get round really well, rather than spend more time travelling than getting to know a place, so where's best?

Also, anyone going out there this summer? We should be going end of july to end of august (hellish time i know, but all we could do!)

Looking forward to replies!

Sarah xx

Have to agree with the above - stay away from Costa del Sol, especially closer to Malaga. I travelled a bit around Spain last summer and liked Madrid, have to taka a good care of your stuff when you are on the streets! Barcelona was nice but somehow I didn't like Valencia, or at least I think that a day or two should be enough there. I loved San Sebastian and the little I saw of Pamplona. I would recommend north Spain - just keep in mind that it can rain up there! And if you have time then you should travel inland - places like Salamanca and Cordóba. Although the south might be ok in may - it is probably not crowded. I also liked Sevilla a lot and Cádiz but that is way south so.....
Hope you will enjoy your trip.
Best, Sonja

I travelled Spain (Iberian Penninsula) last summer. As a native to cold weather Boston, USA I could not tolerate the heat of southern Spain. So I would recommend northern or eastern Spain. I loved Salamanca and Barcelona. Madrid was nice as well. hope you enjoy.
