[quote=tway]On a related note (and I'll only threadjack this for a second! I promise!), Neal was given this weird piece of paper from Homeland Security when he passed through New York on his way to Montreal. It's about the size of a passport, with two squares filled with squiggly lines and two tiny squares in the middle of each. What in the world is that for? They say "it" will only be obligatory on 2007, but they're starting to issue these things now. My best guess is that it's a printout of his eye scan (which he's had to take about 5 times over 2 trips).
Can anyone enlighten me??
It is called a 'machine-readable passport' and I agree, it does sound rather scary. (Big Brother, Minority Report..) It is related to a 'bio-metric' passport - no idea WHAT this is but it sounds even scarier.

The biggest conspiracy of all is that there is no big conspiracy.
We should just check the books out and then well....read them
it's not that the government wants to keep you illiterate- it just does not want you to do any harm. you can have all the problems of the world in your head but as long as your peaceful you can think of them. i'm sure there are many people who have thought real bad thoughts but i don't believe every one will act them out. so read what you like but remember it was only written by another human. ask yourself how well did you really know that person? i'm sure this security thing could be questioned for ever. everything in life is feasable. it's a difficult thing trying to please oneself let alone millions!just keep on reading you'll atleast keep someone in employment.maybe the conspirasy is with the librarians- maybe they want a pay rise
