Who do you guys suggest for international travel insurance for a US citizen?
I have found a few options, but am not sure which one to choose.
And, is it even absolutely necessary? Some people have told me it is not, but I think I would rather be safe than sorry.
I would never travel without travel insurance. If you are covered enough based on your home insurance (this can be the case), then it's different, but most insurances only cover you while in the country.
There's a lot that can happen while travelling, like lost/stolen luggage, accidents etc. etc. Having worked in the travel industry for a few years I've seen how bad it can get and I can't imagine not having travel insurance. Imagine breaking your leg in the middle of nowhere and having to be airlifted out. That kind of stuff can bankrupt you if you don't have coverage!
Myself, I've only had to claim something once (a small bag that was stolen out of a car by someone who bashed the window in), but it's for the big cases that I hope will never occur that I buy it.
The World Nomads one highlighted on on this page is pretty good for most travellers going away for a while. Peter always takes that one out I know.
Dont risk it whatever you do, totally not worth it, it would be really irresponsible of you to go without it!!!Worst case scenario, sorry to be so morbid everyone but Im just telling it how it is, but if you die who do you expect to pay the thousands to ship you back????I always get the package from STA Travel as I know at least if I need to reclaim anything or have any problems theres almost an STA on every corner of the world!Plu its a good policy and its cheap enough too!
