I notice a lot of Bus coaches stop at Pasar Rakyat. Where is this and is it easy to find transport to hotels?

I heard that getting a Taxi in Kl is pretty scary. Apparently they don't use meter. So how do I know whether we are getting ripe off??? :(:(

in kl,not any taxi driver use meter, but actually if you are staying at some public places, like big shopping mall or Chinatown, there are many taxis standing...so you can choose...maybe some are pleasant to use meter...or you can try to use those mass transit like LRT,ERL or KTM...
good luck...;)

Actually "Plaza Rakyat" is refer to the Monorail Station name which located just behind the BUS STATION.

The Bus station is commonly known as "Pudu Raya".

Taxi driver around that area know you are not from local, so, they'll ask for high price. You can agree... But U can try asking whether can following according the meter-reading or not. If its not, then think u can forget it.

If you've booked your hotel, try ask them how much will it cost to take a cab from puduraya bus station. Or perhaps can use the Monorail. It link pretty well with KL's major hotels.

This link below show you the route of Monorail, LRT (Star & Putra) & Komuter Train in Kuala Lumpur. Have a nice trip to KL

Hi Bo Wee,

Please ignore previous posts about where Pasar Rakyat is. They are incorrect.

Pasar Rakyat literally means people's market, and the building has an open air bus terminal, just about 1km away from the Bukit Bintang area, where all the shopping malls are.

Plaza Rakyat, or better known as Puduraya (not to be mistaken with the Pudu station), is the main bus terminal in KL. This terminal is just 200m away from Chinatown (aka Petaling Street), and about 1.5km away from the Bukit Bintang shopping area too.

Not all taxis are bad and do not use the meter. Unfortunately, there are many at the Puduraya bus terminal.

Where is your hotel? If it's Ritz Carlton, it's even nearer than the Pasar Rakyat terminal. Don't take a taxi, walk to your hotel if you do not have many bags to carry, unless it's raining. For the distance, the ride should not cost you more than MYR2.50.

Yep, I had an experience during my schooling life where I came aboarding the bus saying "To Pudu please" and the bus driver dropped me off in somewhere else.

"Pudu Raya" station and "Pudu" are different. Take note of that.

Have a nice day!

Quoting tempfile

The Bus station is commonly known as "Pudu Raya".

The Plaza Rakyat station is actually a light rail transit (LRT) station (located at the back end of the bus terminal complex), not monorail. The monorail service runs on a different route.

The Pudu Station is another LRT station that is on the same line as Plaza Rakyat.

Why are they all called Pudu? (Prounounced Poo-doo) Well, that's because all of them are located along Jalan Pudu (Jalan=Road/St). Jalan Pudu is a road from the city to Pudu. PuduRaya bus terminal is located at the city centre end of the road while Pudu LRT Station is located in Pudu itself.

Thank you very much for all the information.

I'm about to arrange a coach trip from Singapore through Transtar and the drop off/pick up point is at Pasarakyat Bus Terminal, Kuala Lumpur.

The hotel that I wanted is Ritz Carlton that's why I need to know what is the best way to travel from the station. I'm abit confused because someone told me there is 2 bus stations. I know there is one called Pudu bus station but I've never heard of Pasarakyat Bus Terminal before.

So I can conclude that there are 2 different bus stations
