i have been able to find alot of information on metro transport, but sofar i have not been able to find any information on ways to make long or international trips by bus or rail. Does anyone know if the rail system is good down there and how much it costs? Also are buses a good option and how much do they cost?
thanx

there are literally NO trains in south am. Everyone travels by bus which are very affordable and relatively safe too.
My rule was anything over 9 hours i got the cama seat (bed), it gives you the chance to lay down further than semi-cama and the seats are usually more comfortable.
Thinking about it, towards the end of my trip i took always the cama as i was fed up of shitty seats!

price wise, a 16 hour bus ride from buenos aires to Iguazu falla which are a must see was £20 on the nicest bus, aim to get the front seat upstairs, book early and you'll get this. Make sure you are no-where near the toilet or you will be woken up all night and if someone has the shits and is puking, well.....

I've travelled around Peru and Bolivia by bus and they are safe, most are modern, comfortable and cheap. You might even get a meal on most long hauls with the fare (I did between La Paz and Arica, and between Tacna and Arequipa). As an example, the 8-10 hour bus ride from La Paz to Arica, Chile was US $10, and what a ride that was!
And I would recommend the higher end busses for long trips, especially overnight trips.

Hi all

There are several train in South america Like brazil to Bolivia, chile to bolivia , Argentina to chile etc, but the most commom is travel by bus. The train are too slow and not confortble.

10 hours trip by bus can be from US$ 10 to US$ 40,00 depend on where you are and what kind of bus you want.
