I`m going to visit Rome for one week. I have a plan to stay in Rome and to visit Napoli, Pompei and Capri (every place for one day, leaving Rome in the morning and returning back to it in the evening). My question is - is it possible by the time - one day - especially concerning Capri, and what is the cheapest way from Rome to Capri? I would be very happy to receive ANY information you`d want to share with. And also all possible recommendations how is it better to spent time in Rome
day trips from Rome to Naples and Pompei are somehow ok.
Rome Naples by train takes more or less 2 1/2 hours...
check the italian railway site: www.trenitalia.it for schedules.
To Pompei: about 1/2 hour away from Naples, so if you can stay in Naples the night...you save your self a lot of time to see the ruins.
To go from Naples to Pompei it is best to use the "Circumvesuviana"..a local train that runs from Naples to Sorrento. Check the exact route..there are several.
I love Naples & Napolitans but be careful on the Circumvesuviana: thefts can be around..
Capri: same as Pompei. You have 2 options to go to Capri. Either you take a ferry/speedboat from Sorrento (if you spend the night in sorrento after visiting Pompei) or from Naples if you get there on a day trip.
With the money you save by going back and forth from Rome to Naples, I believe u might find a simple hotel room or bed and breakfast.
ciao, have fun. diego
It would be a very long day.
One thing you'd have to be able to do is to synchronise your various modes of transport, which is not easy in Italy. The last thing you want to do is be wasting time on train stations rather than spending that time on Capri.
