Problems moblogging

Travel Forums System Talk Problems moblogging

Hi,

Just tested moblogging, but couldn't get it to work.
I changed the setting and then...

  • tired e-mailing from my mobile
  • sent a MMS from my mobile
  • e-mailed from a computer

None of the messages have showed up at my blog.

Could anyone help?

Vilma

I don't have a mobile phone to test with here, but I just tried sending an email by regular email, and that showed up on my blog without any trouble - http://dev.travellerspoint.com/10/.

I can't really say why your messages didn't get through - Sam will need to look into the database for that (to see if they were received at all, and if so, why they weren't parsed to show up), but some things to check, just in case:

  • Are you completely certain that you used the correct email address? (It should be vilma.<something> at moblog.travellerspoint.com - so make certain you didn't forget the moblog part.)
  • Did you send it only to this single email address? We do some basic parsing, but under certain edge cases, if you send the email to multiple recipients, it might fail.
  • Likewise, did you enter the email address in your address book using a name like "at" moblog.travellerspoint.com?

[ Edit: Fixed up list... ]

Wow, Sam, Peter, weird bug with the parsing of that message and lists... (I did {list}{*}text{something} on one line.).

The first point should be:
Are you completely certain that you used the correct email address? (It should be vilma.[something] at moblog.travellerspoint.com - so make certain you didn't forget the moblog part.)

Hi,

First of all, I seem to be blind... or just stupid. There actually was one letter wrong with the address I used earlier today. q and g got mixed up because of underlining in the link (didn't look from the bottom of the browser at that point).
Sorry!

Now that I had the right address...

1) sent a MMS with a photo - text got through, but no picture...??
2) sent an e-mail from a computer - everything worked fine
3) tried a MMS again, once again problem with the picture
4) e-mailed from my mobile - worked fine

I love this possibilty by the way... Moblogging is something that would've been very handy many times. And here it is! Thanks!

I wonder what's wrong with MMS photos It would be faster to send pics using MMS rather than e-mailing from mobile.

Ah, that's annoying. I'll look into either removing the underline, or making certain no ambiguous letters will be present in new email addresses.

Hmm, curious.
If you read this right now, could you send another MMS message with photo, and then post here the very minute you do so? I can see the email before it's posted, but not after, so there's only a five minute window for me to take a look.

I also have to leave in less than ten minutes, so if you don't see this right now, maybe tomorrow...

sorry, have to run. maybe you can mms me direct so I can have a look when I return? -snip- (It's all new technology for us as well, so chances are the mss message has a slightly different format to what we tested with that's tripping us up.)
No worries if you'd rather not, in that case let's try tomorrow.

[ Edit: Snipped ancient email address, since spammers now have scripts (?) good enough to recognize such easy obfuscation. ]

Just tried MMS again - didn't work.
Sent MMS to your mail also.

Okay, I have figured out why this doesn't work - when the photo is sent as MMS by your mobile phone, it's being sent without the filename in the "Content-Type" header. This is allowed, it's just not something that happens in most cases (other mobile phones we've tested with don't do it that way), and the code we use thus doesn't recognize it as an attachment (which is but to say, the problem definitely lies on our side). Unfortunately this is a bit of standard code, and not something we can easily fix. We're looking into alternatives, but I'm afraid that for the immediate future we won't be able to make this work, so that when you want to send photos with that specific phone, it's recommended to use email. I'm sorry I couldn't do more.

(There's a minor chance that there'll be new firmware for your phone that changes this behaviour, which you might look into, but given that it's not an actual bug, I doubt it.)

Thanks. At least now we know what's the problem.
I'll use e-mail for now.
Merry X-mas!
