Hi ppl, I'm just wondering if there's such a scheme in Taiwan or volunteering groups heading there. I'm thinking of living in the countryside or rural areas. I don't mind doing manual work or teaching in return for food and accommodation. And for Singaporean, what's the visa requirements for long-term stay?

Hello ueirin

I doubt you just want to stay in Taiwan for a period of time and would like to work or do something to pay the fees of living. It is not very expensive to suvive in Taiwan especially in the rural areas, so if you would not stay very long time, it is ok that just take a vacation without doing job.

Maybe you have to describe why you want to go to Taiwan, and i can give you the answer you want exactly.

By the way, i remembered people in Singapore know Mandarin Chinese? If so, you can easily surf the Taiwan website and get the information you want.

hello!a girl I met whilst travelling had just come from spending 18 months in Taiwan...she was on a teaching programme as teachers are in high demand there and the wages are good. She was offered free accomodation sharing with other teachers and during schooldays recieved free breakfast and lunch. She said living costs were low abd she really enjoyed her self there so maybe look into one of these programmes! However if you are deadset on doing something rural in exchange for food etc I assume if you cant find a programme that offers what you want then maybe look into doing it independantly and then you can negotiate the terms with the people to suit both parties!!!Good luck, I hope you find something!
