Getting married in six months and I get to choose the destination for the Honeymoon.
Always wanted to go to Thailand and am thinking of the island of Ko Sumai.
Any information regarding cost (I assume is relatively cheap), not-so-crowded areas, experiences, particular areas/beaches. Anything helps at this point.
Perhaps there is another region of the country worth looking into as opposed to Ko Sumai?
I appreciate any replies.
Do you mean Ko Samui?
If so, I would suggest Ko Tao instead. Same area as Ko Samui and Ko Phan gan, less to do, but much more romantic.
Or do a trip around those three islands..
I would look at the Krabi side of Thailand. It was hit hard by the tsunami, but has recovered for the most part. Use Krabi as a base and you have dozens of islands to choose from. Koh Lanta or Koh Jum maybe the idyllic spot for your honeymoon. White sand, clear, warm water for swimming and fewer tourists. Ferries leave daily from Krabi town. Once in Krabi, any travel agent can recommend an even smaller island that may have eveything necessary for your special time together.
On Koh Phanagn try Tong Nai Pan, not sure about both these spellings( and the the word order of the 1st 1!). Koh Panagn is is the Samui Archipelago between Koh Samui and Ko Tao And Tong Nai Pan is about a long bumpy hour ride from the boats dock on Koh Phanagn. It is in the lonely planet-not so popular a few years back when I was there and secluded with a nice cheap chioce of places to stay. No resorts and not many services though! Depends what you are looking for.
Hello!!!Yeah I would agree with vegasmike and say head to Krabi...Samui was fun but a lot of it has been taken over by the package holiday crew and to be honest my first thoughts when I arrived were that I was in the Benidorm of the East!!!Well the Main Chaweng, Lamai areas at least!Fo me Krabi was a lot more laidback and beautiful....On Railay, The west has a lot of more upmarket places to stay with it being a honeymooon rather than backpacker type places and also theres a beautiful resort with really cute little bungalows right near Laem Phra Nang...Its really nice over there you could visit Phi Phi all the island and also Koh Lanta is lovely!
definately head to krabi, ao nang and ko lanta. ko samui is very touristy - saw a lot of fat old men with young thai women (same same as phuket)
it's very cheap and has a range of accomodation to choose from. don't book ahead! just arrive and choose when you get there. i met many people who booked their whole trip through travel agents and were generally overcharged and couldn't change their plans if they changed their minds. thailand is a very easy place to travel round and you'll have loads of places to choose from once there.
