we're two 18 year old girls from holland and were planning to go to peru, equador and bolivia in march next year. we want to volunteer in a hospital the first two months, but after that we want to travel ourselves
but everyone in our environment are telling us not to do it, they say it is unsafe for two girls alone...
i would really like to hear what you all think of this, maybe some women travellers can tell me their positive experiences, so i can read this to my mom!
thanks a lot!
Aaaahhh...no! What were those responses in English please. I am in the same situation. Thanks.
well for your volunteer work I recomend you in sucre for me is the most beautiful city in bolivia, is not so big, the architecture is very colonial, is so cheap, is not so hot and not so cold, for these reazons there are a lot of volunteers that are working in this city. For your travelling bolivia is more safe than peru and ecuador. but there are a lot of travellers that are travelling like you, so you are not traveling alone, I had a friend from germany, she traveled alone from sucre, bolivia to Quito, ecuador by bus, with no problem, she enjoyed a lot and she meet a lot of travellers. But of course you always have to be carefully in latin america, good trip, Danielo.
I was in bolivia, Peru and Chile last August and found several girls travelling alone.
I can tell there is no different in be a girl or boy in traveling to South America. You need to take care the same way you do in a big city.
You need just to be more carefully, like double your attention, it just because you are from holland, a more safe country.
