I'll be travelling to Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand for 7 weeks, was wondering what would be a good size back pack to buy. What brands are good?

Quoting larry81

What brands are good?

All of them. Don't buy on brand, buy on what rests well on your back.

Seriously, I don't think there's any brand of large backpacks that is not good; There's some quality differences in the materials used, and some features missing from some packs, which you see return in the prices (MacPac and Karrimor are generally considered to be two of the higher-end brands there), but pretty much any pack should suffice, as long as it fits well. (So go to a store, load heavy weights in packs, try them on. See which doesn't chafe, which spreads its weight evenly, what you can just happily walk around with.)

I would add to what Sander has said only that you should check that the stitching is strong and tight.

How large of a pack will depend on how much stuff you intend on taking. But if you intend on reusing the pack for future trips, you should keep that in mind as well. Good luck.
