I will be studying in Santiago, Chile this coming semester and intend to do some traveling after the semester is over. I am having trouble finding cheap flights from country to country in South America. For example I would like to find flights from Santiago to Rio, Lima, Buenos Aires etc. I also want to find a way to get Costa Rica but it seems to be impossible. Does anyone know anyone good websites or airlines that are affordable. Also does anyone know a good website for trains and buses. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Try any of the following airlines. You can probably google search their websites as I can't remember most of them:
No proper rail network in South America.
There are many different inter-country coach services in South America most offering good value and cama(bed)seats. The one I can think of at the moment is Andesmar. They can get you from Santiago de Chile to Buenos Aires via Mendoza. Not sure of the prices off-hand though as they may have changed since when I last used them.
Taca and Copa www.taca.com www.copaair.com offer South to north coupon flights from South America to Panama, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Belize or Cancun then return home Tickets must be purchased abroad, best to contact a travel agent specializing in Latin America or a consolidator like Exito Travel www.exitotravel.com in advance and arrange an open jaw ticket.
COPA and LAN have good last minute deals.
LAN Chile has flights to Lima,Buenos Aires,Quito....
I believe a few airlines have deals where you buy a coupon worth so many miles (0-1500, 1501-2500,... I think) that cover several countries. I'm pretty sure TAM and Aerolineas Argentinas have such a deal, but others might.
How much are air tickets in SA?
And thouse "mile tickets" you're talking about, how do they work? Prices???
I'd like to fly from Peru to Honduras or San Salvador...
something like that anyway...is it possible to find tickets for 200$ or less??
Tickets bought in SA for travel within Latin America are very expensive, buy your tickets on line or thrrough a travel agency-consolidator specializing in Latin Travel such as Exito Travel www.exitotravel.com before you depart.
Taca Central American Airlines www.taca.com flies in and out of Lima to San Salvador, El Salvador (SAL) everyday, the coupon flights are generally from the South to Northbound flights check out their web site, usually there are stops in Panama, San Jose, CR etc. If one has some 1000s of miles that may be transferred best consult a travel agent with a Sabre system.
THanks for the info.
Still seems a bit too expensive...like 700$ LIMA-San José or LIM-Managua...
but anyway, cheers!
Really no "cheap" flights within SA or SA to CA. Best well before you depart try and purchase all your flights and connecting flights in one package. The cheapest option from SA to CA is usually Quito or Bogota to Panama try www.copaair.com The Panamanian Airlines, from Panama the Bus to Costa Rica and Nicaragua and return.
