What would you say actually qualifies as RTW??

I'd say going around the world.. more than one leg, in one direction at the end. Not just a destination on the far side of the world, travel and touch three or more continents.

Simplistic but I think it's a good definintion

I'd say going 'around' as well, ie. a round trip to Australia from Europe via Asia both ways wouldn't count. A round trip to Australia with stops on the way there in Asia and stops on the way back in the Americas would however count....

Then again, if you feel it's an awesome trip and you travel for a long enough distance, you could call it an RTW trip as far as I am concerned ;)

Agree with Sam. You have to actually go all around the world, as opposed to essentially an out and back. Not to say no backtracking at all, but primarily, all your travel (or major legs) should be all Eastbound or Westbound.
