Trip to West Coast. Advice Needed!

Travel Forums North America Trip to West Coast. Advice Needed!

My boyfriend and I are planning to take a couple of weeks in August to travel around parts of the West Coast of America. We are thinking of hiring a car and would like to visit places such as Las Vegas, San Fran, Los Angeles, incorporating of course the Grand Canyon, Death Valley and Yosamite National PArk.

Was just wondering if anyone had driven these parts and how best to go about it/possible routes etc so we get the most out of our trip.

Bit vague at the moment but that's why I'm needing some advice!!

Thanks

Jayne

Hi Jayney i drove to all of those places in september except for Yosemite National Park.
The route we did went from Grand Canyon where you should stay the night in the park area and then see the sun set and sunrise then onto Las Vegas, Death Valley, San Diego, Los Angeles and finally the fantastic coastal drive where we first stayed at Monterey for one night before carrying onto San Francisco.

I think the roads we went on were:

Grand Canyon-Las Vegas on I-40 via Hoover Dam

Las Vegas-Death Valley on Highway 95 where we spent the night at Ridgecrest after visiting Death Valley

Ridgecrest-San Diego on Highway 395 then I-15

San Diego-Los Angeles on Route 101 then I-5

Los Angeles-Monterey on Route 1

Monterey-San Francisco on Route 1

If these roads are wrong then blame the guy i travelled with as i copied them from his diary.Hes sad enough to write down the roads we drove along

The whole trips on my blog if you want to see photos etc

Thanks for this Reece.

We shall definitely be looking into this and at least we now have some idea of what we are looking at!

Will let you know how our plans go!
