Going to Venice for a few days, anyone knows a cheap place to stay?
Don't need much, just a bed and some sheets and not more then half an hour walk to see the main things.
Anyone been there, done that, has a good idea?

Thanks a lot!

In Venice there are two youth hostels, if this may suit you.
Look here: (Ostello Venezia) and here: (Ostello Santa Fosca). Both are in Venice city, the latter is more "central".
If you are looking for "hotels", I'm afraid hotels in Venice are quite expensive...

Hi all,

I'm about to go Venice in this end of Feb, the price of hostels are indeed very expensive.
I've googled around the net, and I was attracted by one of the comment saying the "best" place to stay in Venice is:

Address: Forestia Valdese, Palazzo Cavagnis, Castello 5170, Venice
Tel: +39 041-5286797

But the problem is, I do not know where is this place? I can't even get a glimpse on it from the internet?
Any clue?

although i can't really tell where this hostel is but i just wanted to say that Venice is not so big, when i=ve been there we were crossing the whole city 3-4 times a day in different directions, so i guess all the hotels which are in the city (just note that the hostel shouldn't be in Mestre) are within walking distance from Ponte di Rialto, piazza San Marco etc.etc.:))

it is in the city centre, not far from Piazza San Marco.

If you use a site like and you insert "castello 5170" as address, you can find it in the map.

Hi reddy,

What are the transport mode that you use, when you mentioned "crossing the whole city 3-4 times a day in different directions"?

This is my first time there...hope you can give me some guides.
I got an inter-rail ticket which can travel unlimited within Italy for 16 days. But since you mentioned that Venice is not huge, I "guess" it won't be alot of railway station within Venice itself...;)

I stayed at Camping Alba d'Oro which had cheap buses into Venice town (make sure you buy tickets early though as the buses get full pretty quick). We stayed in a twin cabin thing made from corregated metal! Cheap and private-ish but the walls are wafer thin so you have to hope you don't get noisy neighbours. There are also tents (and pitches if you take your own) and some strange cabins that look like giant plastic recycling bins...but were probably slightly quietier than where we stayed. Theres also a "resturant" on site which does cheap pizzas!

hoping to revive this post and see if anyone has any new info on cheap youth hostels in Venice. I thought all cities in Europe had at least a couple of youth hostls in the 20 Euro/night rangs am I wrong?
