is anyone going to be in beijing for chinese new year? i am, and was wondering what actually happens at this time of year? are there street parties? bars celebrating? like here in australia? or is it more of a family celebration for chinese people?
is it true that most things are closed at this time, not just on the new years day.

Chinese New Year is rather for family reunion. So it might not be what you imagined. Most of the shops will be closed or closed early on New Year`s Eve, and open till the second day of the lunar New Year.

yeah, our Chinese new year is more for family. ppl who work outside will be back at that time, we called reunion, means all family members get together and have a big family dinner on New Year's Eve. it is sure that chinese new year is different from astralia's, but i think you could experience it, that will be let u know more about our china.
