trying to save money by sitting on my arse and watching films at home. Can anyone suggest a great 'travel related' movie, so that I can get into the mood?

Please forget the obvious:-

The Beach (what a hash of the classic Garland novel)
Midnight Express

any ideas appreciated

Whale Rider reminded me so much of New Zealand I cried the whole way through. You can also rent The Motorcycle Diaries, Deliverance (well, I'm reading a book on travels through backwoods America, so it's on my list of must re-see), and any movie made in a country you'd love to visit(I hear Auberge Espagnole is a good one). I can't think of any more titles right now... I'll get back to you!

"Dutch" A lesser known road film about two peoples misadventures on the great American open road. A very funny movie.

I think there are a couple more in the series. Can't be sure but I think Debbie has done quite a tour.

There is a new movie out - 'Hostel'. Although, I don't think this one will actually inspire you to travel anywhere.

Of course we'll never be able to travel like that but we can dream.

I always say the same thing when this topic comes up but anyway...

Barraca, its a beautiful documentary about mans relationship with Earth.

Time bandits!! ISA is that with the *ahem* vertically challenged peoples??!!! I swear this is the film me and my brother used to watch as kids!!

also Balsac and the little seamstress is another one that made me desperate to go to China.
