Hello – My daughter is going to Germany soon for a couple of months. I would like her to be able to call me at any time, but how do I go about setting that up? An international cell phone? That sounds expensive, but worth it if necessary. Does anyone have a better suggestion?
Give her money to buy a calling card when she's in Germany. Calling cards are sold everywhere - all she has to do is scratch off the code in the back and follow the instructions. She can use it on any phone, so it's very convenient, too.
Calling collect or via international cell phone will cost you an arm and a leg. I found out the hard way when I called collect from France for 20 minutes - which cost almost $200 Canadian. Rediculous!
How about the internet? There are a number of free internet phone services like Skype, MSN, AOL, etc. Assuming she has a computer and you have a computer, that would be a very inexpessive way.
Why don't you try Onesuite? It's like a calling card without the card. That way she can't lose it. It's really cheap and you can buy it for Germany calling America or Canada. (I think) I'm not sure about calling from Europe to Europe, but this should solve your problem pretty easily.
