Hi All,

Can anybody tell me where to look for flights from South America (preferably Buenos Aires or Rio) to Australia (preferably Sydney). I am having great difficulty in finding these.

I would presume they would be very expensive?? Anyone got any ideas???

Robbie

It looks like there is no 'short cut' across the Pacific. I looked up http://travel.airwise.com/schedules/ and you would have to go via the US (Santiago) for both Rio & Buenos Aires.

Last January my wife and I flew Perth - Sydney - Auckland (New Zealand) - Santiago - Rio.
Best bet would be to get to Santiago in Chile and get the Lan Chile flight to Sydney via Auckland.
A long long flight and not cheap as far as I am aware.

I have a flight booked from London to Buenos Aires - overland to Santiago/Chile to Sydney. Its a single and cost me £650.

I booked my flight through Global Village in London (www.globalvillage-travel.com), but i also had quotes from STA too.

I hope this helps.

As far as I know all flights from SA to Australia or NZ go via Santiago and have to be flown with Lan Chile. If you are still in Ireland it's a lot cheaper to book through a travel agent like Ebookers, Trail Finders or USIT than book directly with Lan Chile. I'm not sure what the price is if you call into a Lan Chile office in South America. Just in case you are still in Ireland and haven't booked your flight to South America it's possible to get from Ireland to Australia on a One Way World Discovery ticket costing around €1,100 all inc flying the following route: Dublin-Sao Paulo, overland to Santiago and then Santiago-Sydney (via Auckland). You can also choose to stop in Auckland for no additional cost.

Happy travels.

Go to London, if possible, and book there, in advance, with an experienced travel agent..these agencies called 2
"chop shops" specialize in RTW tickets. Tickets purchased WITHIN Latin America are often doubly expensive.

The LAN Chile or Aerolineas Argentinas website.

They are the only 2 airlines flying South America to Australia.

For anyone in UK or nearby Europe planning a complicated itinerary including Latin America I would recommend them purchasing The 'Footprint Handbooks' published in UK, there are several agencies that advertise with them that specialize in both Latin and RTW Travel packages and tickets..an experienced agent can often get you the best deal.
