Hi,
In may 2006 i'm going to do a backpack trip in Andalucia. Its the first time that i will do that kind of travelling, so i want to ask if sommeone can tell me sommething about and maybe give me some information about Andalucia. This is the plan that i made: I arrive at the airport in Malaga, from there i rent a car to go visit Granada and from there we go on foot to Murcia. Whe hope to find every evening a place to sleep so if anybody can tell me more it will be a great help! thanks :)

If you geta chance to get close to the mountains do!. Orgivas a really beautiful location with great cheap cabin facilities.

Granada is a really cool cty, theres a great hostel five minutes from the Alhambra which is very cheap and really friendly, with roof top swimming pool.

Don´t miss out on Seville and Cordoba. Anf if you have enough time, go to the so-called "White villages" in Cádiz (Grazalema, Arcos de la Frontera, etc)

Thanks for the information. I also would like to ask if anyone knows if it is true that in the south of Spain jou have to be carefull for gypsies. Some people tell me that it's dangerous to hitch hike in that area. Is this right?

We almost got swindled by 'fortune-telling' gypsies in Malaga. My then-boyfriend paid one woman enough to cover both 'readings', then they turned around and cursed at us for not paying them. They hurled insults at us as we walked away (although I couldn't tell you what they said...). Lots of fist shaking and flicking of fingers off the underside of their chins! After that we just ignored anyone tying to sell anything, and they'd quickly give up and move on to the next unsuspecting tourist. Live and learn!

Yes, be careful with gipsies. Some are tricky, other are just fine, like you and me. I never like to generalise.
Do not stop by anyone asking your to read your hands, or saying that God will save you... They just want your money, so try to avoid them. Anyway, you shouldn't be scared of anyone approaching to you!!!!!
In andalucia Cordoba, Sevilla and Granada are definitely a must. Then if you want to complete your trip, don't miss Ronda, Ubeda and Baeza in Jaén or Cádiz.

Hi Pepi,

I just went backpacking for a week in Andalucia and maybe you'll find it interesting to read my blog about the trip (http://steffbo.travellerspoint.com/8/). I didn't have any problems with gipsies, but being cautious is always good.
If you need any advice on nice hostels to stay at, let me know.

Steff

hey there, If you haven't hired a car already go for http://www.hispacar.com. It's by far the cheapest you'll get anywhere. Also re going places: Cadiz is Fun and there's the carnival sometime in feb or march. Sevile is pretty (i live in seville) If you want to know about food, I couldn't be arsed to keep writing a blog, and people kept asking about restaurants, so i wrote it all down in the blog. http://tomleighton.blogspot.com
There's also a great hostal called makato guest house in granada...very chilled in the old Albycin area http://www.makutoguesthouse.com/.
If you want more info on other areas, I know most of Andalucia pretty well, let me know.
Tom
