For the travellers/backpackers who've been to Australia, what was the first thing you did when you arrived? (ex. find your hotel, find the bar, etc.)...
And for the upcoming backpackers: you've landed after that long @ss flight, and maybe you've killed that person you sat with on the plane for 20 hours! (from Canada) - so you'll be checking into your hostel; what's the plan for your first day?
Drop my bags off and go for a walk around the area to see what's happening. Depending on the time of day, I usually would end up in the bar....
get your room get a card with your hostels info then get lost in the city. its the best way to famirlize yourself with a new city.
Well if I was Canadian had just arrived in Sydney from your cruel winter, and it was today (34 degrees) I would drop my bags, lock up my passport, grab my boardies and head to the beach and dunk myself in the Pacific Ocean. Given that you're not use to the sun I would limit my time exposing my pasty flesh to about 30 minutes with SPF 30. Then, I would head to the nearest bar for a long cold beer - or 10 - and congratulate myself for getting off my ass and travelling.
Day 2? Read day 1.
I got there at 9pm,after a 23 hour flight so went straight from the airport to the hostel-kept the staff on their toes-couldnt figure out how to change me combo lock number you see!
Walked around the hostel, had a shower and crashed in bed.
Always have to have a good shower after a long flight!
