Rajasthan is beautiful, but very hot in the summer. Be careful of the desert camel safaris offered. Don't go if there are only one or two people or they tell you they will meet more people later in the safari. This is a good way to get robbed or (if a female) attacked. Train travel is a great way to see the country. Eat very cheap or very expensive (by local standards) but don't go middle of the road because that food is more likely to be microwaved and you run a greater risk of getting sicks. Becoming a compulsive hand washer will go a long way towards keeping you healthy on your trip. Have a great time.

Have you experienced this?

Traintravel is always recommened. But sometimes (especially in Rajasthan) you need to pick the bus (including Hindi/bhangra rock all the way). Why does the camel safari sounds frightening to you. Its actually really great and an experience you never forget.
