hey everyone

i'm just curious- i will be travelling to thailand for most of february with three friends who are 18, 18 and 19. I myself am 16, and do not look a day older. i am wondering if this will hinder the amount of fun i can have, eg with going out in the evenings (i still have the ability to get into places - ID)

any opinions would be appreciated

Nah its not an issue!!!!In fact, and I found this really amusing, the people that sell the street cocktails on Khao San Road actually hold up signs saying "strong cocktails no ID!!!"Its pretty laid back over there, i wouldnt stress!

What are you expecting to do - get drunk every night like the adults? Will your I.D. be checked - maybe - maybe not!

Is it easy for young people to get beer - sure it is - and when you screw up - it is easy to get arrested too!

And easy to get some dope - and easy to get arrested too! You do dope in Asia you do some big time when you get caught!

Why don't you just settle for a simple sunburn and a little sightseeing, and when you are thirsty stick to a soft drink.

You really don't want to get drunk and make a fool of yourself in public. A pretty boy in a Thai prison would be used just like a girl. Four young people without any adult supervision has great potential for some serious "problems!"

Alibom,
You have gotten some good advice from older members that have 'been there/done that' before you. I have spent 10 winters in Pattaya and have seen too many guys get into trouble due to alcohol. Yes, the Thais will let you drink, and yes, also take home an 'escort' as well. Very hard to resist when a teenager. But, please use some common sense while there or you could very well get yourself arrested. I have taken a friend food/water while he was a 'guest' in the Pattaya jail and you do not want to have that experience. If any members want an insight into how the Thais treat their prisoners, use google and try 'Thai Prisons'. It may help modify your behavior while there. Have fun but stay safe.

Different bars have different levels of strictness. On Khao San Road there were women holding up signs outside some bars saying they didn't check ID, but there were also some bars on the same street that were pretty thorough. I even got checked for ID in one bar and I'm 34.

Hello Alibom!!!Just to say, have check of this link....http://www2.potsdam.edu/hansondj/LegalDrinkingAge.html
Apparently there is no legal age minimum on alcohol in Thailand so you should be fine! But yeah, as others have said, be responsible with the alcohol, police arent very tolerant of drunken westerners and when you are somewhere so culturally different its best to keep your wares about you.Have fun!

Nothing funnier than a drunk 16 year old Farang in a foreign country!
