Hello!!! Im off travelling to India and Nepal in July and we have been given the option of getting to spend a day or so in Dubai. Our flight goes via Dubai and we can either go straight onto Delhi or spend a couple of days in Dubai....Im being honest and Im saying I dont know a great deal about Dubai so any advice would be most appreciated to help us make the decision!!!We are most interested in Cities and are on a backpacker budget so what would you guys reccomend?places to stay, things to see?the general atmosphere!!!thanks!

Hi Twinkle, I got the same thing. I had I flight from Iran with a stopover in Dubai for a day. Actually its very expensive there compared to India (I didn't count on that). The airport of Dubai is an attraction at itself. Never I have seen an airport that is that glitter and glamour like the airport of Dubai. Next to the airport there is a youth-hostel and that was the cheapest I could find (20 US$ per night).

I had a 24 hours stopoever in Dubai, and I can highly recommend it.

What I did was:

- visit the souk markets for a few hours; amazing!
- go to the beaches
- go to the shopping centres
- visit a mosque
- visit that hotel and take photos.
- ate dinner at an excellent footpath restaurant and talked to an interesting Iranian guy for a while.

Having read up a lot about Dubai recently, I'd love to go back again.

Thanks Guys! Thats great help!!!Yeah Id heard it was pretty expensive over there and Id hate to scupper my budget by getting silly and ending up doing a load of shopping en-route!!!I see it as I have the opportunity so even if I just spend the day there and see the place then its worthwhile! It would be a shame to go there and not actually see the place so I think Ill definatley do it!Thanks for the advice on the hostel!and I just love the sound of the souk markets!!!!

Consider Dubai as a western country.....no worries (its no India)

Dubai is western orientated. But don't forget that majority is Islamic. So it wouldn't be wise to walk with short skirts (that is asking for trouble). Travellers in those area's always cover their legs (woman and man), buy something that is light and airy (you will find something in Dubai for sure). Short sleeves should be OK!!!
