magykal1 has indicated that this thread is about Latvia

Am going to make use of the cheap flights and head off to Riga and Tallinn for a week or so next month.

What must I not miss?

What would you like to do or see? In Tallinn, general answer would be "You've got to see The Old Town, it's amazing!". Also You might want to visit the second largest city in Estonia - Tartu. It's really beautiful, and compared to Tallinn it's not that infested with tourists, who are here just to buy cheap booze.

Can't help You about Riga.

Both cities have great old towns, the best way to see them is on foot.

With Tallinn you should buy a book of 10 bus/tram tickets (talongs) and head off to Kadriorg Park, the beach at Pirita and maybe go to see the TV tower as well. By the time you get there the new art gallery might be open in Kadriorg Park.

In Riga the Occupation Museum is worth a visit (and free of charge), St Peters Church has a good view of the Old Town, as does the Skyline Bar in the Hotel Latvia.

A good source of information for both cities is and the paper version of the guide, which is inexpensive, informative and an entertaining read.

agree with the Occupation Museum! Very cool!!!

But can i suggest if you have more time - Vilnius is the best of the three cities of the Baltics! Tallinn is the nicest looking but too many tourists.

Some suggestions. In Riga - The nightclubs, the girls, the restaurants, the architecture especially in Albert St ( Some fine examples of Art Nouveau style ). The Dome Church Square in the old town where you can still see the bullet holes in the Latvian radio building from the struggle for independence in 1991. The open air ethnographic museum, how latvians lived centuries ago. Have a meal at the Lido restaurant on the Krastmala, the one with the big windmill.
Tallinn is nice especially the old town.
But Riga is more exciting :-)

my plan is too fly from the UK to Helsinki, Boat it out to Tallinn and then use public transport to check out all the places mentioned. (Tartu, Riga and Vilnius) Spending 2 Nights in each.

I know flights to Helsinki are approx £130pp with BA and Ferries to Tallinn are at most £40pp ... after that i cant find any useful info.

does anyone know about public transport in these regions?
