Hi,

Can anyone recommend any decent guest houses to stay in Luang Prabang, preferably reasonable price, in a central location, with a private bathroom & must be clean. Am I asking for way too much?

Thanks.

Not asking too much, but define reasonable price. After all, Laos is cheap by western standards, so a mid range place will be $14-15 dollars a night. You can obviously get cheaper or much more expensive. I stayed at Soya (or something like that, its in the LP), and it was lovely.

It might be a little more helpful if you mention what "reasonably priced" means to you.

Phousi Guest House, about $8 or $9. Located on 40/7 Ban Choumkhong and Sisavangvong Road. Okay, private toilet, (Air available) HW, etc. Fax and Tel. 856 71 212973.

Phousi Hotel, about $35 during high season, different from the Phousi Guest House, a little fancier and a beer garden. Located on Setthathirat Road. Tel. (071) 212 192 or 212 717, or 212 718. The hotel has A/C, HW, TV, private toilet, etc. A little better than the guest house.

No e-mail address on my old cards. There were lots of places in town, cheap restaurants too! Heaviest rains I ever encountered in Asia - but for only an hour or two. Sidewalks are a foot high in some places so that the shops don't flood out. Luang Prabang is probably okay for 3 or 4 nights max (opinion.)

There's so many places to stay in LP, with some great (and in-expensive) options. I'd suggest just turning up and having a look around.

I stayed in a really nice place (about 6-7US$ a night for a double). It had just opened and wasn't therefore in any guidebooks. Unfortunately I can't remember the name...sorry!
