Hi,

I am off to OZ tomorrow need to book my ticket in 4 hours. I have an option of a 3 night stay in LA. But if I do my budget for 3 nights/day will be $250. Will that be enough for accomodation, basic sightseeing and having a few beers?

Thanks in Advance

Adrian

Adrian,

A little tight. A cheap hotel can be had for $49 plus tax, about $54 per night, so 3 nights comes to $162, leaving only $90 for the rest. You kind of need a car to really see LA--and this is the key thing--cars cost anywhere from $30 to 45 a day in LA--not leaving any money for the food, sights, drinks, etc.

If you can budget $300 to $350--no problem--either that or figure out someway to spend one night at the airport, or find an even cheaper place to stay (hostel?).

Enjoy.

I had a 23 hour stopover in LA on my way home from Hawaii and found a hostel near the airport for 16 US dollars a night!! It was clean, and on a bus route that brought me straight into Santa Monica. Santa MOnica was great to walk the pier, see the beach, look in the shops and see the streets acts. I think I only had $50 dollars to my name and I managed to see Santa Monica, have a meal and a few beers and have a great time!

Im sorry I can't remember the name of the hostel, but I genuinely got it from a flier I picked up at the airport when I arrived in LAX.

I think if you try and do stuff like I did, you should be fine on your budget!

Have a great time!

$250 should be plenty if you pick a hostel rather than a budget hotel - particularly if you find a hostel which runs trips out from the hostel so you don't need to hire a car.

We stayed at Orbit which is great (and you can book it here!) it's about $20 per night for a shared room and they run sightseeing trips round town as well as running buses out to theme parks etc. - I'm sure other decent hostels do likewise.
