We are planning a trip to South East Asia for approximately 8 to 10 weeks this year. We live in Australia and have been to Langkawi, Kuala Lumpar, Sabah, Brunei and Bali in the past.

Would like suggestions on what is not to be missed in the South East Asia region. We would like to do some shopping, some adventure/sight seeing and some relaxation. Tips for moderate priced accomodation would be appreciated.

Thank you.
Sandra and Andrew.

Hi,

I would suggest to add to your itinerary in Southeast Asia to visit the Philippines, try the famous Banaue Rice Terraces, Chocolate Hills, Boracay Beach, Palawan, Baguio, Cebu, Davao Pearl Farm, Malls for shopping, very cheap, your dollar will really goes a long long long way. You will got cheap and quality item, from around the world, both eastern and western stuff. In addition, accomodations are also cheap. As a traveller, you are not only looking at the nice places and and other good stuff, look also at the people. As traveller, I found that the its not only the scenery that matter, what matter is the experience you got from the people in the country where you are visiting.

Enjoy and have a good time travelling,

Hello!!!Have you considered the Thailand and Cambodia type areas?I had a fantastic time, its amazing over there and so much to see and do whether you are wanting cities, beautiful beaches, temples, jungles?!??!The west coast of Thailand including the islands are amazing and arent so touristy as the Koh Samui side of things!
'Remember', Im heading back to Asia but this time visiting India and Nepal and we are considering going over the the Philippines also during our trip, do you know of any cheap airlines which operate from the Phillipines?we were thinking about getting a cheap flight Kathmandu to Manilla or if we had to, do it overland into Vietnam and fly from there?

Air India fly to Manila for a reasonable price. They fly from India of course, but also from Bangkok to Manila and are a little cheaper than Phillipine Airlines. I think the cheapest price i found from Bkk to Manila was 11,900 baht. I think you would find it more expensive to fly to Manila from Vietnam.

as to don't miss locations I think that Ankor Wat has to be a top choice and the floating markets on the Mekong qualify. I also loved Vietnam and the whole range of places and experiences there. Especially the old city in Hanoi, the town of Hoi an and the beach town of Na Trang.

andsands,
Yes, Angkor Wat in Cambodia is a must, spend a couple of days. Maybe a day tour first then go on your own to the different sites. You can hire bicycles & peddle out there from Siem Reap!
In Vietnam, we also enjoyed the Mekong Delta, we only did a day trip, just us two & the guide, it was a very full day but really enjoyable and it's easily reached from Saigon. You can stay overnight there too if you wish.

Lots of options in Asia but Northern Thailand is also very interesting if you get the chance.
West of Bangkok, maybe consider the River Kwai Noi area in Kanchabouri(sp) province. This is a relaxing place, nice river, elephant trecking etc.
For a day trip from Bangkok, go to the Old City of Ayuthaya - take the bus there & dinner cruise back.
I suggest you also get to the coast, maybe a few others can help with suggestions there. We have only been to Phuket (Patong Beach. We had a great day trip in the Sea Canoes from there. My daughter raves about Krabi (Tonsai beach). Lost of young people get there. it is very popular with the rock climbing fraternity.

Hi twinkle,

Try Philippine airlines or cebu pacific, or any other rgional airlines across ASEAN, specially those chartered flights, you will get value from your money.
