How much use are the YHA or ISIC cards? Is it worth buying them to save money in the long term and do most hostels accept them? Thanks!

A VIP card is more use than a YHA card, as most places will have only one YHA hostel and loads of VIP hostels. You save a dollar per night with the card so if you're staying a couple of months it pays for itself. On top of that most bus passes and tours offer discounts if you have a VIP/YHA card.

The only instances I've come across where an ISIC card was of use is for clubs where students usually get in cheaper, and also the Melbourne Grand Prix where you could save $70 with an ISIC card.

Don't forget you can also making savings in the UK with a YHA card if you need to buy any equipment . . .eg at Millets.

ISIC also gives discounts on some travel within a country- like a tourist bus service. Not always reliable to give discounts on local transport tho.
