Hi,

I would like to travel to Santorini and a few other islands in May. Does anybody know if the sea is warm enough for swimming yet?

Thanks alot!

To tell the truth, during springtime the water is not warm enough, especially in places that are in "open sea" like Aegean sea. But, it highly depends in the period that you are going. If you manage to go at the last days of May, it would be better. Furthermore, if you are strong enough you can swim, but I can't promice that you' ll enjoy it. Of cource there are many things to see and do except swimming. Go for it and have a nice holiday

Water temperature is supposed to be 20 degrees Celcius in May.

Anybody else been to the GreekIslands in May and can share their 'swimming' experience at the beaches?

I am planning to visit the islands in early May - hence the question.

Cold is relative I s'pose - have swum in Greek waters in May, and it was cold compared to say August, but I found it tolerable. But then I have been known to swim in the channel so maybe I'm used to it a bit chillier.

If someone who is tough enough to swim in the channel(how the hell could you?!??!?!!?!?!??!?!) tells you it is tolerable, then I think it settles it as inhuman... ;)

i am from melbourne and the water rarely reaches 18 degrees, 20 is warm the weather will be nice so a dip would be lovely. i have had many people tell me that may is the best time to go because it is a lot cheaper and the beaches are not so busy. If the tempreture is over 25 degrees a water temp of 20 is perfect in my oppinion and ive done a little swimming in oceans have a crack Sean Australia
