Hi everybody!

I would need some advice for accomodation in New Orleans in summer (approximately July 10th - 18th)! What has re-opened by now, lying around 500 - 1000 Canal Street.
Who had been in N.O. recently and knows the current situation there? What about public transportation? Is it hard to get around? Where are you not allowed to go to?

I'm there for a congress, so I won't have too much free time to go sight-seeing, but I do want to maybe go for a swamp tour or something like that. Any ideas?

Thanks for your help! Appreciate it!

Natascha

I heard (only heard, mind) that the hostels in NO are pretty atrocious. We stayed at a B&B called The Creole Inn , located in the Marigny district. It was beautiful, reasonably priced, and a short walk to the French Quarter. The site doesn't mention if the place needed to undergo any renovations - or even if it's still open - but from what I read the Marigny was saved from the worst of the damage.

I went to New Orleans a year ago and stayed at India House Hostel. The place itself was rather dodgy, but the people were great and I had a fantastic time staying there. I don't know about its condition post-hurricane. It's a bus ride from the French Quarter. Definitely go for a swamp tour and a cemetary tour.
