Instead of taking a flight to Cusco, I was thinking in seeing the countryside. Has anyone travelled by train or bus?
According to the Peru website, trains are robbed from time to time.

Hey Marc!

Most people do it by bus here. The journey from Lima to Cuzco is about 10 hours I think, maybe more. I went to Nazca first, but two Irish girls I am with took the bus directly from Lima - they found the journey hard because they got quite sick with the altitude. I flew to Cuzco from Arequipa and had no problems - it was quick, effortless and worth the $84!!

If you are travelling long distances by bus, go for the decent option.

Check out

Hope that helps!

Ev ;)

The travel from Lima to Cusco by bus is approximately 23 hours.

The most bus company is CRUZ DEL SUR. You can take in Lima or Arequipa.

hello, there are two flight companies: starperu is aproximatly $88 dollars and lan peru is $110 dollars(, telef: 051-1-2138200 for reservation). You have to do the reservation with time, because the fligths are always full.

But the travel for bus is better to do:

1. first you go to arequipa(18 hours), then you take the bus(6 hours) to Puno and then for another way you take the bus for cusco(6 hours from puno) because the road is better in this way. bus directly to cusco is aprox S/120 soles $36.10 dollars). This route is done for a lot of tourists, because they can visit the titicaca lake, taquile island and others. If you visit the web page en inca adventure(artisans organisation with travel agency)/ you will see all the travel and stops that they do.
