i plan to travel to the canaries soon with a friend, we want to get jobs to pay our way and some where to stay. we plan on going for a few months but if possible much longer.
has anyone done this before, where would we stay, do they have cheap hostels or is it cheaper to rent somewhere for that matter is it possible to rent some where.
we are hoping to maybe work our way from something like tenerife to lanzerotti to fuerteventura to gran canaria or vice versa.
all information will be taken onboard very gratefully thanks

to be honest we would go anywhere in europe (somewhere hot) like costa dorada or corfu, you know the score here.
we are first time travellers to this extent we just want an adventure, look forward to hearing some stories

Personally Ive never done this in the Canaries but I spent a few summers working over in the Balearics (Mallorca and Ibiza), once as a tour Rep and the other times we just packed our bags, got the cheapest flight we could and turned up there without anywhere to go!!!!I say just go for it!!!Best thing do maybe do, is book a couple of nights in a hotel so you have somewhere to dump your bags. What we learned is just head out there and go out as if youre having a big night out and befriend everyone out there, chat to people working in the bars, eveyone and then you'll get sent on a wild goose chase of "go and see such and such...blah blah blah" but it all works!
I have friends who have worked Lanzarote and Tenerife and its the same set up.....just find somewhere to rent, living costs are pretty low out there, and then set about finding a job whether it be bar work, restaurant, retail or anything!!!Its pretty easy!!If you have any questions get in touch?!?!But youre sure to have a blast?!?I have a lot of happy, drunken memories of those times!!!!

Oh I just realised your second post?!?!Im having a blond day!!!!You say you would be pretty much up for anywhere!Well, I worked in Corfu (In Kavos...Cringe) when I was about 18, handing out flyers for about 20 pence an hour...have to admit it was fun but wasnt too fond of the place!!!!You were saying your first time travellers....maybe you should consider Mallorca afterall???Its so easy out there and you will have so much fun!!!If you decided on going there give me a shout as I have a lot of contacts I can give you for accomodation and stuff and put you in touch with a few people!!!!

Good advice...!!!
If you have a good command of english and german you can work anywhere!!!! The canaries have their high season almost all year round (summer, because it is summer and everybody is on holidays, and in winter, beceause when it is cold in the peninsula, they have around 22 °C in the Canaries).

Hotels, bars, tour operators, restaurantes... Check a bit on the web for those and get informed. Book a couple of nights anywhere, as twinkle has adviced, and go out, walk, check out places. Print lots of CV's and address yourself to every local you see you will like to work it. You shouldn't have any problems.... And if you do, you have always Burguer King or McDonalds... if you don't mind working there :-) Good luck!!!! :)
