Scared of tattooshops - can we visit Bangkok safely?

Travel Forums Asia Scared of tattooshops - can we visit Bangkok safely?

Sandorius has indicated that this thread is about Thailand

Hi,

I have a question about tattooing I hope you guys can help me with.
My girlfriend and I are planning to visit Bangkok and the rest of Thailand this summer. However, my girlfriend is very scared of tattooshops, or more specifically for the humming sound of the tattooing machine.

We would like to know if it is possible to visit Thailand without being afraid to run into tattooshops around every corner, confronting my girlfriend with her fear.

Are the tattooshops concentrated in Bangkok (I know about Khao San Road for instance), or are they scattered around the city, so we run into them around every corner?

Is it true that there are people tattooing out in the open, on the streets? Or are all tattooing activities inside in the shops?

Thanks a lot!

Hmmmmmmm, I cant recall bumping into many tattoo shops whilst I was there! The only people I saw doing tattoos on the streets were the ones of the Henna variety so no need to worry about that buzzing sound there!!!I didnt notice an abnormal amount, I guess no different to home!

hmmmmm... maybe we travel on different paths...

but, I have seen one tattoo shop in Thailand... and I have never heard the hummmmm of the needle ever....

That is during 3 x 30 day visits to thailand...

seems the girl might be a little faint hearted for thailand - - but the tattoo shops are not LITTERED EVERYWHERE...and she should be able to shop and visit everywhere comfortably...

Khao sahn maybe the one place where that is a problem....

why would you be scared of tattoo shops?

When I saw the title of this thread I thought it was about finding a decent and hygienic tattooshop. But a tattooshopfobic I never heard of. In Bangkok you should be more scared for the traffic I guess....

Yeah wouterrr I thought the same thing, I thought it was going to be about finding a decent tattoo!!!!
Suppose its a one of the more unusual phobias but as for this whole "why would you be scared of tattoo shops" thing I guess it isnt fair to criticize other people's fears or force them into justifying them. Fears can have a lot of control over peoples lives....i have a friend with a huge phobia of buttons who, ironically works in the fashion industry, and this has seriously had a great impact on his life, he is physically sick if he touches a button, he has ended up unemployed over having to refuse amazing jobs because of this fear, he cant wear any clothes with buttons on and has panic attacks in shops over them. Its really quite worrying how intense fears can be.

Its true but I find it rather a strange phobia. But these sort phobia's could occur after some trauma (maybe that is the thing).
