HI there lovely helpful travellers.
I am going to a trade fair in Athens from the 8-12th March. I'm staying in a rather sterile hotel (Ok so it's got 5 stars but it's also somewhere near the tradefair on the outskirts of Athens, and altough i get some allowance, it isn't a lot).
Can anyone reccommend any places to go out in the evening. Good restaurants or areas of town good for nightlife and some places to chill out, I imagine I'll be a bit knackered by the end of the day.
Also I want to spend about a week in Greece after the fair.
I've heard that Athens isn't much of a place to visit apart from the Acropolis. I find this hard to believe. Where else i there to go? How many days would you say it's worth staying for.
I would also love to visit the islands. Where have you lot been and where did you like most? My girlfriend, who hopefully is coming too, has heard good things about Santorini. Any ideas? We don't want to go to package tour hell areas, but want to go somewhere with some beatiful scenery or atmosphere. Any suggestions will be gratefully considered.
Answers on a postcard or a message board please and thanks for your help.

Athens isn't Europe's most action-packed city but its okay for a few days wandering around.
Island-wise my personal favourite is Skopelos which isn't too touristy (is still quite touristy though) and has a very picturesque town built up into the hillside around the harbour. I haven't been to a Greek island yet which has entirely escaped package tourism, though they should be pretty quiet in March.
If you want to avoid packages, and not spend too many hours on a boat, you could think about visiting mainland northern Greece instead - Greek Macedonia, Epirus or Thessalia for example - where there are great archaelogical sites and stunning scenery.
Even though it's quite touristy, the Plaka district (near the Akropoli metro station) is very nice. Lots of good cafes and restaurants. Please be aware that there will be plenty of men running around Plaka with menus and pressuring you to eat at their restaurant (it really becomes a nuisance/annoyance). Athens was really cool and I can't wait to go back to Greece sometime to see some of the islands (which I saw from the air and they looked AMAZING).
athens was pretty good - but the person i was travelling with didnt like it that much..
things to do other than the acropolis:
the olypmic stadiums
the house of parliament (The Greek version of Buckingham palace!)
the gardens and some temple (I am real bad with remembering names of places!) its a short walk from the acropolis - if you take the back exit from the acropolis - turn right, and walk down that path - you walk past a few places, and then there is a gate into some gardens and there is a temple there, and like a museum type thing - really good if your into looking at alot of old rocks...
i dunno what the weather is like in athens in march - but i bet it is alot better than england - have a good trip!
thanks for your advice. Really appreciated, and I'm looking forward to it. Still can't decide whether to go to the islands or inland though!
