I will be travelling to Germany this summer and would like to bring back some German sausage. I know that Customs would take it if I got inspected but would like to give it a shot. I've seen the X ray inspections at agriculture and am wondering if anyone has "beaten" an X ray. Let me know if you have any good ideas. Thanks.

You can't beat an x-ray, meat has a different consistancy than anything else and anything you use to try to conceal it will only make it opaque and then they will have to inspect it, at which point you can kiss your stash good-bye.

A friend of ours made it through customs with several cured sausages from Paris. At the same time, they confiscated her Spanish ham she had purchased in Madrid (a $250USD loss). This was a business trip - she works in videography - so I don't know if the sausages were packed in with the video equipment or not (looking like boom microphones or lens). All I know is that the sausages were delicious and we'll never know how tasty the Spanish ham could have been... (I'm sure the customs officials enjoyed it.)

If you try it - be prepared to lose them.

You could try to make it look like something else. How about wrapping it in foil and pretending its a telescope? (would only work for a straight sausage).

What am I going to do with you guys?!?!?;)

There's gotta be a way to do it..I find it hard to believe that nobody has had success pulling it off, I'm certain it's been tried.

7. Posted by Cupcake (Travel Guru 8468 posts) 10y was my job to make sure people DIDN'T get that stuff through....I am sure there are people who manage it, so have a field day! Just don't get upset when they 'take it off your hands'.

Could you not post the sausages???I have mates who have posted some fairly suspicious items and all you have to do is fill the customs form so you could lie?make sure you post it super first class though or they will arrive rotten and the stench will give them away!!!
Actually maybe thats a stupid idea...its been a long day!!! What about the whole thing of actually declaring it?Maybe that would work? If not I say wrap them up and keep your fingers crossed, if you get caught you get caught, if not you managed to smuggle them!!!wrap them in a few socks and act stupid if they ask, pretend you didnt realise!!Ive realised the whole dumb blonde act works in the most ridiculous situations!
