Moderator comment: The following is the complete text taken from another thread that Judy D'Albert (juday) started, also looking for Jenny Pope, who is missing in South America. Do to the "no double posting" policy, I felt placing Ms. D'Albert's message here quite appropriate. If anyone has information concerning Ms. Pope, please post here and/or contact Kim Harrison (puplekim9) and/or Judy D'Albert (juday) via the Message Center. Thank you!

Please circulate this information about the British nurse who has been missing since January 9,2006, after she left Peru where my cousin, on her own solo round the world adventure met her at New Year's. Google Jenny Pope or go to the BBC website and search for news stories there.
If you are travelling to South America and especially Ecuador, Peru or Bolivia please talk about Jenny to everyone you meet in case someone remembers seeing her. If you live there, please consider downloading, printing and posting/circulating the poster about Jenny on www.soundsculpture.co.uk/jenny
Thank you and do be careful because we all tend to think "it can't happen to me". Not so.

Ms. Dean's posting:
Please help if you can. Our friend Jenny Pope,50 year old nurse travelling alone in Ecuador, was last heard from on 9th January 2006. She was in Banos,Ecuador and was travelling to Quito intending to return home to the UK early. She has not been heard from since. Her bank account has been systematically emptied and overdrawn, the withdrawals have not been in character with past withdrawals as all were made over a period of one week. She has a loving husband and son, and we, her freinds are all terribly worried about her.
The Police from Greater Manchester in the UK have flown out today and her family intend to fly out shortly. If you have any information at all please contact -snip-
For further details please see www.jennypopeappeal.org for pictures of Jen and information in Spanish and English.
As an 'Ex Pat' (and if you don't know what it means, please, don't bother to ask!)I belong to several online Ex Pat orgs and forums...this arrived today in expatexchange.com Weekly Newsletter:
MISSING: British Woman in Ecuador
Jenny Pope is a nurse from Manchester, England who has been missing in Ecuador since January 9th, 2006. Jenny is a solo backpacker who has been traveling through South America since September 2005.
She last posted in her online travel journal at livejournal.com on January 9th. Jenny wrote, "I'm in Banos (which also means toilet) but its far from being a toilet here. Its mostly cloudforest here but with lots of waterfalls and big rivers and I love it! I'm moving next to Quito where I hope to renegotiate my flight back to Blighty and bring it forward. I think I might be getting a bit travel weary now and I'm missing you all and the weather (believe it or not), and lots of little things..."
Jenny's husband, Dave, contacted ExpatExchange for some assistance from expats in Ecuador. He and his son are preparing to travel to Banos as the investigation seems to have come to a halt. He would greatly appreciate any advice about Banos, the state of the investigation and ANY suggestions on how they should proceed in their search. Please post any advice to Dave online in our Ecuador Forum or e-mail us. Your suggestions will be forwarded on to Dave Pope.
If you have ANY information about Jenny Pope, please visit the Jenny Pope Appeal Website http://www.jennypopeappeal.org/ for more information, contact the British embassy in Ecuador at 02 297 0800 (ECUADOR) or e-mail the appeal e-mail (on the website).
If any of you travellers hear or see anything at all, contact them.
hi everyone, to answer the question asked a few replies above as far as we know jenny was staying at the princessa maria hostel in banos. she checked out/left arround 8.15 on 9th janyary and it is assumed she was heading for the bus to quito as this is what she said she planned to do in her email the day before (8th) to family. she wanted to change her flight to move it forward and return home early to the UK. She appeared very travel weary and homesick in her email. just to update you her son and husband stef and dave are flying out to quito today (friday 3rd march). they are overlaping with the manchester police officers who are over there for the final day before they (the police) return. stef and dave plan to stay there for as long as posible, perhaps 4 weeks. thanks for all your concern and help, kim xxx
This quote is taken from a duplicate thread that was removed:
If you are currently or were travelling in Banos around Dec 05 / Jan 06 and think you could help in our enquiries please see www.jennypopeappeal.org where there is more information and email contact addresses. Thanks
Jen is still missing and her husband and son are currently in Banos trying to find her.

This has probably nothing to do with it at all but we were in Bolivia in March and heard about a Austrian couple that was missing too, they were last heard of in Copacabana (Bolivia) end of January (23rd och 24th) and then nothing at all - and their bank accounts were emptied systematically (with maximum withdrawals everyday). It's extremely terrible - and it seems to happen frequently.
