Traveling in CA w/surfboard?

Travel Forums Central/South America & The Caribbean Traveling in CA w/surfboard?

Maybe someone can help me out with this.
I have been to Costa Rica for surf and had a vehicle. Thus, getting around with my surfboards was easy. This summer, I hope to see all of Central America by bus.
My question is this...I know that busses are a great way to get around in CA while backpacking, but what about if I am carrying a 7ft surfboard ? Is it easy to travel with my boardbag or is it going to be difficult due to baggage restrictions on busses, etc?

Thank you!

Best to take the first class Tica Bus between countries which has room for your surfboard in the luggage area below. In Guatemala you should take a Shuttle Bus to Monterrico or Las Lisas where surfboard can be secured in teh rear or on top, in El Salvador you can take a taxi from the Tica Bus terminal )get off in upscale San Benito station, closer to the beach for about $25 one way only 32 km. to Puerto La Libertad, Nicaragua has yet no coastal highway, so best hire transportation to take you to and from San Juan del Sur from Granada, Tica Bus now stops there.

you'll need to have a cover for your surfboard. you're not allowed to carry one on the bus without a cover.... at least thats what happened to me in brazil.
