resurrecting, this thread with:
RUSH - NOBODY'S HERO

I knew he was different in his sexuality
I went to his parties as a straight minority
It never seemed a threat to my masculinity
He only introduced me to a wider reality
As the years went by, we drifted apart
When I heard that he was gone
I felt a shadow cross my heart

But he's nobody's hero
Saves a drowning child
Cures a wasting disease
(Hero...)lands the crippled airplane
Solves great mysteries
(Hero...)not the handsome actor
Who plays a hero's role
(Hero...)not the glamour girl
Who'd love to sell her soul
If anybody's buying
Nobody's hero

I didn't know the girl, but I knew her family
All their lives were shattered in a nightmare of brutality
They try to carry on, try to bear the agony
Try to hold some faith in the goodness of humanity
As the years went by, we drifted apart
When I heard that she was gone
I felt a shadow cross my heart

But she's nobody's hero
Is the voice of reason against the howling mob
(Hero...)is the pride of purpose
In the unrewarding job
(Hero...)not the champion player
Who plays the perfect game
(Hero...)not the glamour boy
Who loves to sell his name
Everybody's buying
Nobody's hero

As the years went by, we drifted apart
When I heard that you were gone
I felt a shadow cross my heart

But he's nobody's hero
Saves a drowning child
Cures a wasting disease
(Hero...)lands the crippled airplane
Solves great mysteries
(Hero...)not the handsome actor
Who plays a hero's role
(Hero...)not the glamour girl
Who'd love to sell her soul
If anybody's buying
Nobody's hero

Thanks Rene! I was going to ressurect this thread yesterday...

The pills that I took tonight
Won’t let me sleep.
I’m pacing the floor
With sweet dreams of you.
I spend most of my time
Hanging on a bar,
Running ‘gainst my hard blues
And losing the race.
When I get to the finish
I’m right back at the start,
Trying to chase another
Sad memory away.

I went to the city,
Felt like playing the star,
Feeding the fires
Of the honkey-tonk queens.
But dealing in the flesh scene
Won’t get you very far,
A man needs a woman
If you know what I mean.

Chorus : Lonesome moon in a crystal black sky,
The bottle’s been dry for a while.
I done walked through the soles
Of my new cowboy boots,
Pacing the floor with
Sweet dreams of you.

A guitar picker
Leads a serious life,
Trying to find the love light
To put in his song.
Trying to find the one lick
That’s gonna make it alright.
Struggling with the right words
That all come out wrong

Chorus : Lonesome moon in a crystal black sky,
The bottle’s been dry for a while.
I done walked through the soles
Of my new cowboy boots,
Pacing the floor with
Sweet dreams of you.

Shadows are falling and I'm running out of breath
Keep me in your heart for awhile

If I leave you it doesn't mean I love you any less
Keep me in your heart for awhile

When you get up in the morning and you see that crazy sun
Keep me in your heart for awhile

There's a train leaving nightly called when all is said and done
Keep me in your heart for awhile

Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-li-li-lo
Keep me in your heart for awhile

Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-li-li-lo
Keep me in your heart for awhile

Sometimes when you're doing simple things around the house
Maybe you'll think of me and smile

You know I'm tied to you like the buttons on your blouse
Keep me in your heart for awhile
Hold me in your thoughts, take me to your dreams
Touch me as I fall into view
When the winter comes keep the fires lit
And I will be right next to you

Engine driver's headed north to Pleasant Stream
Keep me in your heart for awhile

These wheels keep turning but they're running out of steam
Keep me in your heart for awhile

Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-li-li-lo
Keep me in your heart for awhile

Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-li-li-lo
Keep me in your heart for awhile

Keep me in your heart for awhile

Keep Me In Your Heart - Warren Zevon

If you close the door
The night could last forever
Leave the sunshine out
And say hello to never

All the people are dancing
And they're having such fun
I wish it could happen to me

But if you close the door
I'd never have to see the day again

If you close the door
The night could last forever
Leave the wine-glass out
And drink a toast to never

Oh, someday I know
Someone will look into my eyes
And say hello
Youre my very special one

But if you close the door
Id never have to see the day again

Dark party bars, shiny cadillac cars
And the people on subways and trains
Looking gray in the rain, as they stand disarrayed
Oh, but people look well in the dark

And if you close the door
The night could last forever
Leave the sunshine out
And say hello to never

All the people are dancing
And they're having such fun
I wish it could happen to me

Cause if you close the door
I'd never have to see the day again
I'd never have to see the day again, once more
I'd never have to see the day again

Hey guys sorry about resurecting such an old thread, but I loved it ;) Here's that beautiful irish song I heard in the movie "In Bruges", which some of you may have seen.

On raglan road on an autumn day,
I saw her first and knew
That her dark hair would weave a snare
That I may one day rue.
I saw the danger, yet I walked
Along the enchanted way
And I said let grief be a falling leaf
At the dawning of the day.

On grafton street in november,
We tripped lightly along the ledge
Of a deep ravine where can be seen
The worst of passions pledged.
The queen of hearts still baking tarts
And I not making hay,
Well I loved too much; by such and such
Is happiness thrown away.

I gave her the gifts of the mind.
I gave her the secret sign
Thats known to all the artists who have
Known true gods of sound and time.
With word and tint I did not stint.
I gave her reams of poems to say
With her own dark hair and her own name there
Like the clouds over fields of may.

On a quiet street where old ghosts meet,
I see her walking now away from me,
So hurriedly. my reason must allow,
For I have wooed, not as I should
A creature made of clay.
When the angel woos the clay, hell lose
His wings at the dawn of the day.

Something Sander posted in a different thread made me think of this song. It's become one of my favorites.

we''ve been datin since high school we never once left this town
we use to go out on the weekends and we''d drink til we drowned
but now shes acting funny and i dont understand
i think that shes found her some other man

she left me for jesus and that just aint fair
she says that hes perfect how could i compare
she says i should find him and ill know peace at last
if i ever find jesus im kickin his ass

she showed me a picture all i could do was stare
at that freak in his sandals with his long pretty hair
they must think that im stupid or i dont have a clue
ill bet hes a commie or ever worse yet a jew

she left me for jesus and that just aint fair
she says that hes perfect how could i compare
she says i should find him and ill know peace at last
if i ever find jesus im kickin his ass

shes given up whiskey and ah takin up wine
while she prays for his troubles shes forgot about mine
im a gonna get even i cant handle the shame
why last time we made love she even called out his name

she left me for jesus and that just aint fair
she says that hes perfect how could i compare
she says i should find him and ill know peace at last
if i ever find jesus im kickin his ass

it coulda been carlos or even billy ortez
but if I ever find jesus
hes gonna wish he was dead amen

Since I have heard that song for the first time in the movie "Flight of the Phoenix", I thought it was meant to be posted on TP.

I was totin' my pack along the long dusty Winnemucca road,
When along came a semi with a high an' canvas-covered load.
"If you're goin' to Winnemucca, Mack, with me you can ride."
And so I climbed into the cab and then I settled down inside.
He asked me if I'd seen a road with so much dust and sand.
And I said, "Listen, I've traveled every road in this here land!"

[Chorus:]

I've been everywhere, man.
I've been everywhere, man.
Crossed the desert's bare, man.
I've breathed the mountain air, man.
Of travel I've had my share, man.
I've been everywhere.

I've been to:
Reno, Chicago, Fargo, Minnesota,
Buffalo, Toronto, Winslow, Sarasota,
Wichita, Tulsa, Ottawa, Oklahoma,
Tampa, Panama, Mattawa, La Paloma,
Bangor, Baltimore, Salvador, Amarillo,
Tocapillo, Baranquilla, and Perdilla, I'm a killer.

[Chorus]

I've been to:
Boston, Charleston, Dayton, Louisiana,
Washington, Houston, Kingston, Texarkana,
Monterey, Faraday, Santa Fe, Tallapoosa,
Glen Rock, Black Rock, Little Rock, Oskaloosa,
Tennessee, Hennessey, Chicopee, Spirit Lake,
Grand Lake, Devils Lake, Crater Lake, for Pete's sake.

[Chorus]

I've been to:
Louisville, Nashville, Knoxville, Ombabika,
Schefferville, Jacksonville, Waterville, Costa Rica,
Pittsfield, Springfield, Bakersfield, Shreveport,
Hackensack, Cadillac, Fond du Lac, Davenport,
Idaho, Jellico, Argentina, Diamantina,
Pasadena, Catalina, see what I mean-a.

[Chorus]

I've been to:
Pittsburgh, Parkersburg, Gravelbourg, Colorado,
Ellisburg, Rexburg, Vicksburg, Eldorado,
Larimore, Admore, Haverstraw, Chatanika,
Chaska, Nebraska, Alaska, Opelika,
Baraboo, Waterloo, Kalamazoo, Kansas City,
Sioux City, Cedar City, Dodge City, what a pity.

"I Can't Break It To My Heart" - DELTA GOODREM

If it's okay
I'll leave the bed light on
And place your water glass where it belongs
And if it's alright
I'll lie awake at night
Pretending i'm curled up at your side

See i'm circling these patterns
Living out of memories
I'm still a long way from accepting it
That there's just no you and me

But if i still believe you love me
Maybe i'll survive
So i tell myself you're coming home
Like you've done a million times
And if it's alright
I'll still be loving you
'cause i can't break it to my heart

Is it just me
Did i commit a crime
I won't believe that loving you
Is just a waste of time
Or was it in my head
I'm reading into things that you never said

'cause i still don't have the answers
To why we couldn't work it out
I wanna think it's something that i did
So i can turn it back around

But if i still believe you love me
Maybe i'll survive
So i tell myself you're coming home
Like you've done a million times
And if it's alright
I'll still be loving you
'cause i can't break it to my heart

And nothing will come between us
I wanna convince myself we're perfect in
Every single way as long as i can keep
The truth away from my heart
Oh 'cause i can't break it to my heart

'cause i still don't have all the answers
To why we couldn't work it out
I wanna think it's something that i did
So i can turn it back around

But if i still believe you love me
Maybe i'll survive
So i tell myself you're coming home
Like you've done a million times
And if it's alright
I'll still be loving you
'cause i can't break it to my heart

This one's for Beerman:

Little roadside restaurant we artfully complain
Groovy tells the waitress that his chicken died in vain
Most every day goes by according to design
I live this dream and still it seems I have you on my mind

From the bottom of my heart
Off the coast of Carolina
After one or two false starts
I believe we've found our stride
And the walls that won't come down
We can decorate or climb
Or find some way to get around
Cause I'm still on your side
From the bottom of my heart.

I can't see the future
But I know it's coming fast
It's not that hard to wind up knee-deep in the past
There come a lot of Mondays
Since that phone booth that first night
Through years and miles and tears and smiles
I wanna get it right.

From the bottom of my heart
Off the coast of Carolina
After one or two false starts
I believe we've found our stride
And the walls that won't come down
We can decorate or climb
Or find some way to get around
Cause I'm still on your side
From the bottom of my heart

These days I'm up about the time I used to go to bed
Living large was once the deal
Now I watch the stars instead
They're timeless and predictable
Unlike most things that I do
But I tell the wind and my old friend
I'm headed home to you.

Coast Of Carolina - Jimmy Buffett
