I am a student and I'm doing research on Amsterdam! I have to know why people go to Amsterdam (what is attrective and less attrective) and what's your opinion after you've been there?!?! SO PLEASE HELP ME AND TELL ME ABOUT AMSTERDAM!!
Thanx for now!!
Greetings from Marise
Amsterdam is like the Netherlands a nice place to go to for tourists. It only depends on what the tourist wants and what he/she will do.
Amsterdam is famous for her Red Light District, Softdrugs, Heineken and Ajax and if you want to experience this than you are in the right city.
Amsterdam is also a city with the canals, old houses, van gogh museum, anne frank museam and more historicals. If you like this than Amsterdam is your city.
Most tourist will choose what they like and don't like. Allthough most tourist want to explore both there are several tourist who dislike or hate the other and will tell you Amsterdam is not a nice city if they got a taste of the other.
If a tourist knows what he/she will like and don't like than they will love Amsterdam. There are two fantastic lines about Amsterdam :
"A muslim must go once in his live to Mekka, a tourist must go once in his/her live to Amsterdam"
"There are city's all over the world and there is Amsterdam"
Amsterdam is just the grown up version of disneyland..
I don't expect you need a local's opinion...
I have not travelled extensively (only the Netherlands, London, Paris and parts of Italy) however, in my experience it's the people that really make Amsterdam a wonderful city. They are very kind, genial people. It also appeals to all kinds ~ it can be as wild as you wish and laid back if that's more your thing. Museums, churches, architecture... I could go on and on.
Oh yes, and they have fantastic ice cream!
After I returned from my last trip the Netherland (which was for 2 weeks in the summer of 2003), I started dreaming about my next trip there.... which happens to be a little more than 2 months!!!
I know what you are saying LadyMac. I was there almost a year ago and I still have dreams about the place!
I've been to Asmterdam. I only like the flower markert there, the rest is only big crowded city :-)
I have been to Amsterdam twice, and I didn't realise that there was a system of canals the first time I went.
I love the architecture of the city, and the various bridges, and the fact that you are always near water.
I found the red light area pretty gross.
