nat393 has indicated that this thread is about New Zealand

Hey! Was wondering if anyone has done/ knows of anyone who has done/ is thinking of doing the kiwi experience or gone with flying kiwi? All sounds great but would be good to get some other opinions, thanks!

I did the kiwi experience round the south island a few years ago and absolutely loved it. I'd highly recommend it as a way to meet people when you're travelling alone. You also get to do/see things you probably would have missed had you done it on your own (gold panning and kayaking at the Abel Tazman for example). They also help you book accommodation as you go round, which is useful in that you get recommendations rather than turning up somewhere random with no idea do what it will be like! I'm now planning on doing the Oz experience when I travel again this year :)

Thanks, sounds like loads of fun! What age were most of the people who did it at the same time as you? Hope you enjoy the Oz experience! Am planning on heading over that way after NZ, yay!

Hi

I know someone who was driving one of the Kiwi Experience buses called Bridget! A rocking lady who will ensure a good experience is had by all in her bus! I also believe the target the 18 to 35 year olds with a lot of European back packers enjoying the trips!

Hi there,

Bit of a different opinion here although I will say I haven't done the Kiwi Experience myself but I have met a lot of people who have done so.

The Kiwi Experience has an alternative title over here - mainly the Big Green F*ck Truck as its generally where people spend a lot of time getting pissed and then getting to 'know' each other. Its also a really young crowd - mainly the 18 - 24 year olds although there are often a few older people on it as well.

There are 3 main companies and they generally follow the same route - Kiwi, Magic and Stray. I went with Stray and had a great time - good mix of ages and nationalities and a great way to meet other travellers.

Anyway thats my contribution to you - whatever way you decide to go have a great time!

Hi
I did the kiwi experience and absolutely loved it! I had heard all the bad stuff about it and was expecting the worst but ended up having a great time - there was a wide range of ages (18-30)fantastic activities and a great social aspect. We tended to get money off activites and when places are booked out they will always find you a bed! Handy when in queenstown in the middle of ski season.

To be fair, I don't think theres a huge amount of value in commenting on something you haven't done. Yes, there are rumours about the Kiwi X being an 18-30s shagfest but my experience was meeting some fantastic people (none of which I slept with I might add!), learning loads about the country from knowledgable and genuinely enthusiatic bus drivers, and getting to do loads of activities that otherwise I would have missed out on (either because they are exclusive to the kiwi x or that I just wouldn't have found out about them if I'd gone it alone).

So your saying your chances of getting laid are way higher on Kiwiexperience?? Interesting, thanks for your time;)

I was a little bit put of by the lack of flexibility offered by Ozexperience because I have a definate idea of what I want to do there. I am still undecided about whether to do a bus tour in NZ. I like the idea of partying in my final destination but I'm a little bit worried about all these meat pie shop stops (Barrytown) people keep talking about. With four weeks in NZ my route needs to be efficient to take in as much as I can so I dont have time for token stops.

I'm going in a few days and have been terrified by the reviews i have read since booking my trip because I want to meet genuine people not just looking for what they can get. It has made me apprehensive but reading your comment was helpful. Lots of people are commenting on the 'rumours' and reputation of the kiwi bus but by everyone writing this of course it will become the 'believed truth'
I suppose Im just holding out that I have not wasted good money on a shag trip but i plan to make good friends- people i can trust and have fun with. I think it depends on each person and what you make of the experience is up to you.
I hope i can come back in one month and defend what i have said here.

And of course people at stray and magic are going to tell everyone that kiwi xperience is awful, just like they will tell us magic and stray are boring. Badmouthing goes a long way
