Anyone know of a way I can fit into a boat, or cargo ship for smaller $$$ to get from Asia (bangkok or manila) to anywhere in USA?

I'm looking at flights and it will be so expensive with all my flights since there are tons of different places i'll need to be going once in get to USA.......i'd rather keep the "main" expensiver flight to a minimum

any info is appreciated.

thanks

zach

Sorry I can't help with this question... But, are you coming back home to stay or just for a "visit" until you decide your next adventure???

If you don't get any other responses in the next day or so, I will move this to the Asia forum - where you may have better luck..

How soon are you planning to make the trip???

I also have no experience on this but I guess there a 2 ways:

  • You use cruise ships and work while you travel
  • You take a cargo ship and enjoy your stay on board

I guess you should look at Google.com and call ship-companys.

Hey Zach,

If you want to keep your ass 'intact', i'd stay away from the cargo ships. Here's a little story....

My mate was in the military and served in 'The Falklands'. He and his friends were drinking in the local, down near the harbour. His friend got asked back to a 'cargo ship' for a game of cards and to sleep with some beautiful women. Off course he accepted. After all, he was thousands of miles away from home. After a few drinks, a beautiful girl did appear in the cabin of the vessel. Unfortunately, 'she' had an extremely large penis! I wish I was joking, but the guy was 'date raped' in the boiler room and all his posessions were taken. He was discharged from the 'signals' for failing an 'aids' test.

I'd like to think that this kind of thing was a rarity, but who knows??? Please be careful! I'd take the flight!

Travelling by cargo ship is well organised and expensive - I doubt that anything like that would happen if you did it through official channels, tbh it sounds like a myth to me anyway.

Anyway check out http://www.freightertravel.info/ to see just how pricey it is.

You could always try getting a job on one.....
