Hello Wan:
I recommend to you the "Hostal La Casa de Melgar". It is a very nice hostal very close to the main square. The address is: Melgar St. 108. Phone: 51-54-222459.

In Arequipa you should visit the Santa Catalina Convent and the Juanita Mummy museum. The city itself is charming, and it are many good restaurants and cafeterias to chill.

Dear Wan :
Arequipa is a great place to visit, they are very nices colonial buildings and convents.
THere is a new convent that i considered very nice called " Santa Teresa Convent 2 and the entrance is only S/10.00.
Close to Arequipa you can do the excursion "Colca Canyon". There are many ways to visit the Canyon .Walink down to the bottom of the Canyon or via classic trip in 2days.
To visit Arequipa, you will need at least 4 days.
Have fun in Arequipa

Thank you all for the information. I checked the website... very nice!!!!!
About transportation from Cusco to Arequipa, what do you suggest: bus or plane???

Thanks again!

Wan ;)

An overnight bus from Cusco saves on plane fare and hostal stay. I called ahead to a hostel and told them I'd be arriving REALLY early and they said it was fine, even had a bed ready for me to curl up in. I took a nap, and explored the city for the rest of the day, and booked myself on a three-day hike into the Colca Canyon. In my opinion, the canyon is one of THE reasons to visit Ariquipa. You can do it on your own (cheap) or with a tour group (not prohibitively expensive). I did it in three days and that was enough, the two-day would have been too rushed. If you have the time, I recommend it.
